What you will Need to Restore Some Headlights. Every thing can be purchased over the counter at your local auto parts store.
- sheet of 600 grit wet sand paper
- sheet of 1200 grit wet sand paper
- sheet of 2000 grit wet sand paper
- any electric drill
- a 6 inch sponge pad that can be attached to your drill
- dish soap
- water

Do it yourself headlight restoration instructions (step by step)
- Step 1 - Clean off hood, fender and bumper surrounding the headlight. Now put masking tape all around the headlight. The masking tape is to protect paint and chrome finish from damage during the restoration process. Make sure the tape has good adhesion, you don't want it to come off and accidentally scratching your car durring the restoration.
- Step 2 - Fill up a bucket with water and pour some dish soap in it. Take a 600 grit sheet of wet sand paper fold in half (long way). Take one half and fold it in thirds. Dip the wet sand paper frequently in soapy water, while sanding off finish. Keep Sanding the headlight until you are satisfied the surface is clean.
- Step 3 - Repeat Step 2 but this time use the 1200 grit wet sand paper. The 1200 grit wet sand paper is going to remove the 600 grit scratches you just made. this won't take as long as step 1.
- Step 4 - Repeat Step 3 but this time use the 2000 grit wet sand paper. The 2000 grit wet sand paper will remove the 1200 scratches and create a really nice finish to work with.
- Step 5 - Clean and dry the headlights surface. Put some light rubbing compound or swirl remover on your 6 inch sponge pad attached to a drill. The rubbing compound or swirl remover will remove the 2000 grit scratches. Use the drill with pad with rubbing compound or swirl remover until the headlight is crystal clear. Keep using the rubbing compound or swirl remover on the headlight until your satisfied with the outcome.
- Step 6 - Put a good quality automotive wax on the headlight.
